[:en]After obtaining your BC real estate license, you might think that it’s time to settle down and enjoy the fruits of your success. However, there are many other steps and investments that you can make to further your career and provide you with the best opportunities possible. One of these steps is to become a REALTOR at The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver. Our experts at Benson Wang have outlined the steps to accomplish this below.
Language
If you’re a resident of British Columbia, you’re going to need a firm grasp on the English language. The Real Estate Council of British Columbia (RECBC) requires that English is the language used for real estate documents, education and communication in the province, making it very important that you have the skills – both written and verbal – to satisfy the Language Proficiency Requirement needed to become a REALTOR.
Education
Becoming a REALTOR means completing two courses: the Real Estate Trading Services Licensing Course and either the Residential or Commercial Trading Services Applied Practice Course. These courses will teach you all aspects of the real estate profession, as well as certain specialized areas, depending on the type of work you plan on doing in the industry. When applying to the REBC for your real estate license, you will need to provide proof of your registration in the Residential or Commercial Trading Services Applied Practice Course.
Licensing
After working with the brokerage that you plan to do business with, send signed applications to the Real Estate Council of BC for licensing. After this process, you are officially a real estate agent and one step closer to becoming a REALTOR.
Real Estate Board
The final step to becoming a REALTOR is joining a real estate board in your area. After becoming a member of a real estate board, you are also considered a member of the BC Real Estate Association and the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA). In order to call yourself a REALTOR, you must be a member of the CREA.
If you’re looking to get further into the real estate market after obtaining your BC real estate license, becoming a REALTOR is a great step. This will give you access to an extensive database of property listings and other tools not available to standard agents. In combination with the skills and tools that we offer, this will give you a leg-up on the competition.
