The road to becoming a highly successful real estate professional is a long one, and it’s really only just beginning after you pass your BC online real estate courses and then pass the exam to obtain your initial realtor’s license. It can be challenging for a newly-minted real estate agent to build their personal brand and business.

  1. Always have business cards on-hand

A realtor without business cards is like a fireman without a hose – they won’t be very effective. No matter where you go, whether it’s professional or private, you should have business cards ready to hand out whenever you think you might have a lead.

  1. Attend every industry event you can.

There are plenty of training seminars, events, open houses, and other opportunities to meet other real estate pros as well as interested buyers. Attend as many as you possibly can. This is particularly important if you’re shopping for a real estate brokerage to join.

  1. Build a website.

Any decent realtor has a personal website. You should too. Even if you don’t have many accomplishments to talk about, well, “fake it ’till you make it.” A website makes you look like a pro, rather than an amateur. Learn about online marketing as well, particularly content marketing, to help drive leads to your site. Get those first testimonials and reviews!

  1. Don’t wait for leads to call.

Have you met someone who sounds like they could be a great lead? Don’t just hand them your business card – get their contact info as well! Then you don’t have to wait for them to call. Be proactive, do some research on their behalf, then call them up and impress them with the work you’ve done.

  1. Keep in touch with past clients.

Referrals are the #1 best way for a realtor to find new business. You should keep in touch with past buyers, contacting them at least once a year or better is to have an automated email system. Holidays are a good excuses to reach out! That will remind them to recommend you to their friends and keep you top of mind for when they are house shopping again.
