Should You Become A Licensed Real Estate Agent? Here Are Some Things to Consider!

Is it time for you to sign up for the UBC real estate course in Vancouver, and become a licensed real estate agent? In terms of the market, it’s still flourishing – there’s plenty of opportunities for new agents to make a name for themselves, and lots of money too! However, becoming a real estate agent takes investment and dedication.

Here are some of the most important factors you should consider before jumping into a real estate course in Vancouver.

Three Factors That Affect Whether You Can Become A Real Estate Agent

1 – Costs

Getting a real estate license isn’t that expensive, but it’s still going to cost you several thousand dollars for classes, testing, and licensing. If you want to get your real estate license fast, you probably won’t have as much free time to work while you’re taking your classes, either. So, you’ll want to have some money saved up.

2 – Time Investment

At a bare minimum, even if you can dedicate yourself full-time to your studies and go to a prep school that specializes in speeding up the process, assume 2-3 months to get through your classes and get your initial license. And that’s the bare minimum. For many, it could take a year or more if one does not take the accelerated training. Plus, you’ll have an internship-style period after that, where you aren’t fully able to work independently yet.

3 – “Feast or Famine”

While real estate offers many lucrative opportunities for getting large commissions, it is not steady or reliable work. This is just a fact of the industry. You could spend months and see every deal you try to arrange fall through due to bad luck, then turn around and make three major sales in a couple weeks. A real estate agent, who doesn’t know how to manage their money, and always have emergency funds in the bank, is not going to succeed in the long run.

Is Real Estate the Right Career For You?

In short, if you want to become a real estate agent, you need three things: time, money, and dedication. If you don’t have the resources to complete your training and establish yourself, or you don’t have the willpower to tighten your belt when times are tough, it may not be a good career.
